9 Weeks
Wow, Ryo is already 9 weeks old! We had his two month appointment this past Friday. I feel guilty for not doing more research on vaccinations. I just learned that in the 80s, children under 5 had 10 vaccinations, presently it's 36! There are some theories out there that all these shots cause autism. I think I read somewhere that the US has the highest number of vaccinations and highest number of autism affecting children. I don't want to freak out, but I do recognize I need to be more informed. Tomorrow, I'm going to go to Barnes to purchase Dr. Sears' Vaccination Book. A couple of my friends from the Moms joining Moms class recommended this.
Ryo had two shots; one per thigh consisting of: Hep B, DTaP, HIB, Pneumococcal, and Polio. He also got the Rotavirus via drops in his mouth. The experience was heart wrenching for me. Those needles were soooo long; I thought it would pierce through Ryo's little thigh. Once he received his first shot, he looked like he was in such pain...turned bright red and tried to cry out...the kind where you can't even make a sound...which is so much worse. I felt his pain too and could not watch...just put my hand to his heart and nestled my face to his face. It was horrible!
We watched him really closely the rest of the day. He had soreness in his legs, no fever, but was fussy. I didn't want to take him anywhere over the weekend. It's 3 days later and he seem back to normal.

Don't feel guilty! i am sure Ryo will be fine. It's incredible all the guilt we're susceptible to no that we're moms...Shots sound terrible for baby and mommy! definitely not looking forward to it. Glad he is recovered....Love those chunky thighs! He looks awesome and very healthy.
ReplyDeleteOh Lani! I'm sure all us moms go throgh that. And it never ends! Our hearts are tied to our children. Their pain is ours.
ReplyDeleteI remember when Penny got those shots. It was the worst for me too! I tried to comfort her by holding her close. I didn't realize I made it worse her by the way I was holding her. She finally stopped when Marc got her. He didn't touch her legs at all as he carried her. I really felt bad that I couldn't figure that out at all.
I've been reading the Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears and it's pretty informative. He details the components of each vaccine, reasons to get the vaccine, and reasons why some choose not too get it. An interesting note I learned is the amount of aluminum in vaccines. Aluminum is added to help vaccines work better. The FDA states that premature babies and any patient with kidney problems shouldn't get more than 10-25 micrograms injected at any one time. If you look at how much aluminum is contained in each vaccination, it far exceeds 25 micrograms! Aluminum can cause neurological harm. Dr. Sears writes, "While there have not been solid evidence that the amount of aluminum in vaccines is harmful to infants and children...No one has actually studied vaccine amounts of aluminum in healthy human infants to make sure it is safe."
ReplyDeleteSome brands use more aluminum than others... so check which brands your doctors use!
